Findings of a Novel Barbershop-Based Peripheral Artery Disease Screening Program for Black Men

Khendi T. White Solaru et al.

Summary: This pilot study reveals that screening for PAD among Black men in barbershops resulted in a higher than expected prevalence of PAD and low awareness of the condition. An educational video proved effective in increasing PAD awareness. Ankle-brachial index screening and educational outreach in barbershops are a feasible and effective approach to diagnose PAD and reduce disparities among Black men at highest risk.
