Chiral Light-Chiral Matter Interactions: an Optical Force Perspective

Cyriaque Genet

Summary: Optical forces play a crucial role in physical processes and are commonly used in laboratories to manipulate matter. Recent research has uncovered new forms of optical forces that emerge when a chiral system interacts with a chiral light field. These forces possess unique properties, such as enantioselectivity, and have the potential for applications in chiral separation and quantum-level control of chiral systems. This Perspective highlights recent advances in this field, showcasing the strong interaction between theory and experiments.

Rationalizing the design and implementation of chiral hybrid perovskites

Adriana Pietropaolo et al.

Summary: Molecular asymmetry is found at all levels of nature, and asymmetric organic-inorganic perovskites have gained significant interest due to their tunable chiral signatures and appealing features for industrial applications. However, the relationship between the structure of chiral perovskites and the emitted signal is still unclear. This review focuses on the supramolecular chiral amplification mechanisms in asymmetric perovskites and discusses future challenges in optimizing the design of chiral hybrid perovskites using modern simulation protocols.

Non-uniform Self-folding of Helical Poly(fluorenevinylene) Derivatives in the Solid State Leading to Amplified Circular Dichroism and Circularly Polarized Light Emission

Pengfei Wu et al.

Summary: An unprecedented non-uniform self-folding phenomenon of artificial polymer chains has been achieved through the design of specific molecular structures. The folded structure is formed and stabilized in the solid state, resulting in remarkably enhanced chiroptical properties. Experimental and theoretical analyses have provided explanations for this phenomenon. Further evaluation of the polymer arrangements in the solid state has been conducted through transmission electron microscopic observations and molecular dynamics simulations.

Unraveling the internal conversion process within the Q-bands of a chlorophyll-like-system through surface-hopping molecular dynamics simulations

Mariagrazia Fortino et al.

Summary: This study utilized non-adiabatic excited-state molecular dynamics simulations to model the non-radiative process within the Q-bands of chlorophylls, estimating the rate constant for the process. An essential dynamic analysis was conducted to investigate the potential role of the solvent in the Q(x)-Q(y) crossing mechanism, revealing the key motions during the simulated dynamics.
