Benchmarking the Electrochemical CO2 Reduction on Polycrystalline Copper Foils: The Importance of Microstructure Versus Applied Potential

Simone Asperti et al.

Summary: This paper systematically tests and benchmarks the CO2RR performance of five different polycrystalline copper foils purchased from different suppliers for the first time. The microstructural features of these foils and their effects on the electrocatalytic behavior during potentiostatic CO2RR experiments are evaluated. The results show that the applied potential is the dominant factor controlling CO2RR selectivities, and the microstructural properties of polycrystalline copper electrodes have a negligible effect on the outcome of CO2RR experiments.
