Well-Defined Pdn Clusters for Cross-Coupling and Hydrogenation Catalysis: New Opportunities for Catalyst Design

Neda Jeddi et al.

Summary: Recent studies have shown that the privileged reactivity of higher-order metal clusters can be utilized in widely applied catalytic processes. Small Pdn clusters with unique reactivity, selectivity, and catalyst behavior have been discovered, presenting potential in catalyst design and application. This review focuses on the catalytic applications of Pdn clusters and discusses the underlying structure linked to their reactivity. It further proposes a hypothesis regarding the formation of higher-order Pd species through ligated Pdn clusters.

Carbo-Carboxylation of Alkenes via Intramolecular Heck Carbonylation Utilizing CO2 and Hydrosilane

Meng-Meng Wang et al.

Summary: The carbo-carboxylation of alkenes using Pd/monophosphine ligand as the catalyst has been successfully achieved, leading to the synthesis of various organic compounds. Additionally, the domino carbo-carbonylation reactions using diene-tethered aryl iodide have been demonstrated, forming bicyclic products with good yields. It is suggested that these reactions proceed through specific pathways.

Air-Stable PdI Dimer Enabled Remote Functionalization: Access to Fluorinated 1,1-Diaryl Alkanes with Unprecedented Speed

Gourab Kundu et al.

Summary: This work demonstrates a remote arylation reaction in less than 10 minutes at room temperature using an air-stable Pd-I dimer, yielding valuable fluorinated 1,1-diaryl alkanes. The unprecedented speed is primarily attributed to differences in dispersion interactions.

Lessons from Natural Product Total Synthesis: Macrocyclization and Postcyclization Strategies

Alois Fuerstner

Summary: Macrocyclic natural products are abundant in various domains of life, providing significant advantages to producing organisms. While macrocyclization reactions were traditionally perceived as challenging, recent methodological advances have greatly alleviated this difficulty, allowing for more systematic exploration of the benefits provided by large and medium-size ring systems. Moreover, the increasing understanding of conformational peculiarities in large rings and the development of new catalytic reactions have opened up opportunities for rapid increases in molecular complexity.

Illuminating the dark conformational space of macrocycles using dominant rotors

Diego B. Diaz et al.

Summary: Constrained molecules often adopt one major conformation, but using a dominant rotor method can allow exploration of alternative structures, such as unusual conformations of 16- to 22-membered rings. This new method controls conformational interconversion, revealing that amino acid residues can be forced into rare turn motifs, providing new insights into the conformation-activity relationships of bioactive molecules.

Regioirregular and catalytic Mizoroki-Heck reactions

Francisco Garnes-Portoles et al.

Summary: The palladium-catalysed cross-coupling reaction between alkenes and aryl halides (the Mizoroki-Heck reaction) is a powerful method to construct new carbon-carbon bonds. Ligand-free methodologies disrupt the extreme regioselectivity on the double bond, significantly expanding the chemical space of the Mizoroki-Heck coupling.
