Electronic Structure and Aromaticity of an Unusual Cyclo[18]carbon Precursor, C18Br6

Xia Wang et al.

Summary: In this study, the electronic structure and bonding characteristics of C18Br6, a stable precursor of cyclo[18]carbon (C-18), were characterized using MO, DOS, BO, and IRI analyses. The delocalization of pi(out)- and pi(in)-electrons in bonding regions was examined using LOL and ELF. The aromaticity was investigated through magnetic response analysis, which demonstrated that C18Br6 has lower aromaticity than C-18 due to the blocking of pi(in)-conjugation by the -Br substituents.

Aromaticity rules

Miquel Sola

Summary: In 1931, Erich Huckel published a groundbreaking paper introducing the Huckel aromaticity rule, which has since become well-known. Electron counting has been applied to various classes of compounds, leading to the development of numerous rules aimed at capturing the concept of aromaticity and its significance in chemistry.

Photophysical properties and optical nonlinearity of cyclo[18]carbon (C18) precursors, C18-(CO)n (n=2, 4, and 6): focusing on the effect of the carbonyl groups

Xia Wang et al.

Summary: The effect of introducing carbonyl (-CO) groups on the molecular optical properties of C-18-(CO)(n) (n = 2, 4, and 6) is studied. The absorption spectrum is red-shifted with successive introduction of -CO groups, but the maximum absorption is mainly due to charge redistribution. The (hyper)polarizabilities of the cyclocarbon oxides increase with the number of -CO groups and higher-order response properties are more sensitive.

Bonding Character, Electron Delocalization, and Aromaticity of Cyclo[18]Carbon (C-18) Precursors, C-18-(CO)(n) (n=6, 4, and 2): Focusing on the Effect of Carbonyl (-CO) Groups

Xia Wang et al.

Summary: The study investigated the bonding character, electron delocalization, and aromaticity of C-18-(CO)(n) (n=6, 4, and 2) molecules. It was found that the presence of -CO groups reduced the global electron conjugation, leading to weaker overall aromaticity in molecules with larger n values.

Bonding Character, Electron Delocalization, and Aromaticity of Cyclo[18]Carbon (C18) Precursors, C18-(CO)n (n=6, 4, and 2): Focusing on the Effect of Carbonyl (-CO) Groups**

Xia Wang et al.

Summary: The bonding character, electron delocalization, and aromaticity of C-18 precursors with CO groups have been studied. The presence of CO groups decreases electron conjugation and weakens aromaticity, especially in molecules with larger n values. While the direct elimination of CO from the precursors shows a synergistic mechanism, it is kinetically infeasible under normal conditions.
