Lead-chlorine synergistic immobilization mechanism in municipal solid waste incineration fly ash (MSWIFA)-based magnesium potassium phosphate cement

Xing Cao et al.

Summary: In this study, a preparation strategy for magnesium potassium phosphate cement (MKPC) based on MSWIFA was developed, allowing for recycling of MSWIFA and immobilization of Pb and Cl synergistically without washing pretreatment. The resulting MKPC had high compressive strength and significantly reduced leaching toxicity of Pb and Cl. The mechanism of Pb-Cl synergistic immobilization was thoroughly investigated through various analyses and calculations.

Garbage-classification policy changes characteristics of municipal-solid-waste fly ash in China

Zixing Liu et al.

Summary: Policy has a significant influence on the contents and leaching characterizations of municipal solid waste incineration fly ash. The implementation of garbage-classification policy led to changes in the content of chloride and heavy metals. The presence of calcium chloride hydroxide (CaClOH) resulted in a decrease in heavy metal leaching concentrations and more stable chemical speciation. Therefore, adjustments in fly ash treatment technologies and running parameters are necessary after the implementation of the garbage-classification policy.

Study on Three-Stage Counter-Current Water Washing Desalination Characteristics and Mechanism of High Chlorine Waste Incineration Fly Ash

Minjie Li et al.

Summary: This study focused on investigating a three-stage counter-current water-washing process to efficiently reduce the chlorine content in fly ash from municipal solid waste incineration and hazardous waste incineration. The results showed that the dechlorination effect of this process could reach over 99% under low liquid-solid ratio and appropriate washing time conditions. Additionally, the study found that the washing solution contained high concentrations of chloride and heavy metals, with lead being the main heavy metal present.

Dissolved organic matter (DOM) was detected in MSWI plant: An investigation of DOM and potential toxic elements variation in the bottom ash and fly ash

Quan Liu et al.

Summary: The content of dissolved organic matter (DOM) and potential toxic elements (PTEs) were investigated in the bottom ash (BA) and fly ash (FA) from different sections of municipal solid waste incineration (MSWI) plant. Results showed that DOM concentration was higher in BA than FA, and BA mainly contained protein-like, fulvic-like, tryptophan-like, and humic-like substances, while FA mainly consisted of tryptophan-like and humic-like substances. The study found that DOM still existed in BA and its concentration increased in FA due to the addition of lime slurry.

Leaching behavior and environmental risk assessment of toxic metals in municipal solid waste incineration fly ash exposed to mature landfill leachate environment

Weihua Li et al.

Summary: The study found that the stability of incinerated fly ash disposed in landfill sites can be affected by the organic landfill leachate environment. Solidified fly ash has the potential to reduce the environmental risk level of leached manganese ions, but the immobilization capability of the pretreatment on various types of manganese ions should be evaluated based on practical disposal conditions. The Acetic Acid Buffer Solution Method can provide a reliable reference level of environmental risk for incinerated fly ash disposed in municipal solid waste landfill sites.
