Enhanced removal of bisphenol A using pine-fruit shell-derived hydrochars: Adsorption mechanisms and reusability

Hugo Henrique Carline de Lima et al.

Summary: NaOH-activated hydrochars were synthesized through hydrothermal carbonization of Brazilian pine fruit shells for different residence times. These hydrochars exhibited high surface area and maximum adsorption of BPA at pH 7.0. Adsorption occurred mainly through monolayer formation with low retention time of the adsorbate, indicating endothermic spontaneous process. Desorption was more efficient with ethanol and methanol due to dipole-dipole forces, while desorption efficiency with acid, base, and salts was lower due to competitive effects.

Shan Xue et al.

Summary: The Zoysia sinica Hance-based activated carbon (ZBAC) showed superior adsorption capacity for Rhodamine B (RhB) removal from aqueous solutions due to its specific surface area and available porosity. The adsorption process followed the Langmuir isotherms model and pseudo-second-order kinetic model, suggesting monolayer and chemical adsorption mechanisms.
