Efficient nitrite accumulation and elemental sulfur recovery in partial sulfide autotrophic denitrification system: Insights of seeding sludge, S/N ratio and flocculation strategy

Summary: The study investigated the effect of seeding sludge on the start-up performance of the PSAD process, showing that rapid start-up could be achieved in a short time. The S-(O) system was chosen for long term operation, and the accumulation efficiencies of nitrite and biological elemental sulfur were systematically studied under different S/N ratios. Furthermore, the separation and recovery of S-0 in effluent was achieved by optimizing flocculant conditions.

Summary: The study investigated the hydrolysis and deactivation mechanisms of catalysts synthesized by depositing K2O and MoO3 on industrial alumina-based catalysts, finding that this modification substantially enhanced COS hydrolysis activity and reduced lattice oxygen content. The introduction of K2O and MoO3 increased weakly basic sites on the catalysts. The modified catalysts showed high oxidation resistance and hydrolysis properties, making them potentially useful in the manufacturing industry.

Summary: The study developed sulfur-incorporated nickel iron (oxy)hydroxide nanosheets as a bifunctional electrocatalyst, which exhibited enhanced catalytic activity for the hydrogen evolution reaction and oxygen evolution reaction in alkaline electrolyte. This material showed promising potential for large-scale industrial hydrogen production with its low cost, high activity, and durability, as well as the opportunity for developing effective and feasible solar power systems in the future.

Cost-effective desulfurization of acid mine drainage with food waste as an external carbon source: A pilot-scale and long-term study

Summary: In this study, a two-stage AMD treatment system using food waste hydrolysate as a carbon source was established. The results showed that the introduction of food waste hydrolysate was not harmful for sulfate reducers in the upflow anaerobic sludge bed (UASB) and enhanced the decomposition of refractory organic matter in AMD. Moreover, this method efficiently removed metals and metalloids from both AMD and food waste, and improved carbon, sulfur, and nitrogen removal in the UASB.
