Synergistic effect of Fe and Co metals for the enhanced activation of hydrogen peroxide in the heterogeneous electro-Fenton process by Co-doped ZnFe layered double hydroxide

Ramazan Keyikoglu et al.

Summary: Heterogeneous electro-Fenton (EF) with Co-doped ZnFe LDH as the catalyst showed enhanced removal efficiency of Phenazopyridine (PHP) from wastewater. Co-doping increased the pore volume and diameter of ZnFe LDH, leading to improved performance. The Co-doped ZnFe LDH/EF process achieved complete removal of PHP in real wastewater, demonstrating its potential for efficient removal of organic pharmaceuticals.

Formation and influence factors of halonitromethanes in chlorination of nitro-aromatic compounds

Junjie Wang et al.

Summary: This study investigated the formation of chloro-nitromethanes during chlorination and chloramination of nitro-aromatic compounds, revealing 2-nitrophenol and 3-nitrophenol as main precursors. Chlorination led to higher HNMs formation compared to chloramination, while ferric and manganese ions had different impacts on TCNM formation. Nitrite was found to significantly reduce TCNM formation, indicating different effects on TCNM formation from different precursors. Additionally, dissolved organic matter significantly influenced TCNM formation in chlorination of 2-nitrophenol, despite low TCNM formation in chlorination of DOM.

Degradation of difenoconazole in water and soil: Kinetics, degradation pathways, transformation products identification and ecotoxicity assessment

Yanli Man et al.

Summary: The laboratory experiments revealed that difenoconazole undergoes oxidation, dechlorination, and hydroxylation reactions in the environment, leading to the formation of various transformation products. Four novel transformation products showed lower acute toxicity compared to difenoconazole, but were predicted to be chronically very toxic to fish, posing a potential threat to aquatic ecosystems.

Degradation of 2,4-dinitrotoluene using ferrous activated persulfate: Kinetics, mechanisms, and effects of natural water matrices

Xiaodong Li et al.

Summary: The study investigated the degradation kinetics of 2,4-dinitrotoluene by persulfate/Fe2+ in different water matrices, finding that a molar ratio of persulfate/Fe2+ of < 5:1 is favorable for degradation. In natural water environments, the presence of HCO3-, CO32-, and NO3- inhibited the degradation, while the process showed superior efficiency in degrading 2,4-dinitrotoluene in environments with low Cl- concentrations.
