Mesoporous silica sorbent with gold nanoparticles for solid-phase extraction of organochlorine pesticides in water samples

Enric Pellicer-Castell et al.

Summary: A novel sorbent based on UVM-7 mesoporous silica doped with gold has been proposed for the extraction of organochlorine pesticides. The sorbent showed good recovery rates for most analytes and comparable sensitivity with other methods, allowing for the determination of compounds according to European legislation. This environmentally friendly and cost-effective solid-phase extraction method has proven to be an alternative for pesticide enrichment in water samples.

A novel electrochemical sensing platform based on the esterase extracted from kidney bean for high-sensitivity determination of organophosphorus pesticides

Han Tao et al.

Summary: A new electrochemical sensing platform using kidney bean esterase as a detection enzyme was proposed for highly sensitive determination of organophosphorus pesticides. The biosensor exhibited an amplified electrocatalytic response to the oxidation of alpha-naphthalenol due to the synergistic electrocatalytic effects of carboxylated graphene/carbon nanotube composites and Au nanoparticles. The biosensor achieved high sensitivity and low-cost detection of trichlorfon and was validated by analyzing actual agricultural products with satisfactory recoveries.

Association between exposure to organophosphorus pesticides and the risk of diabetes among US Adults: Cross-sectional findings from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey

Xianwei Guo et al.

Summary: This study investigated the effect of organophosphorus pesticides (OPPs) exposure on the prevalence of diabetes in American adults. The results showed a positive correlation between urinary OPPs metabolites concentrations and diabetes. Combined exposure to OPPs metabolites was significantly associated with diabetes, with diethylphosphate being the major contributor. These findings add credibility to the argument that OPP exposure might trigger diabetes.

Synthesis, Chemical-Physical Characterization, and Biomedical Applications of Functional Gold Nanoparticles: A Review

Ileana Ielo et al.

Summary: Gold nanoparticles exhibit excellent stability and biocompatibility, making them ideal candidates for medical and biological applications. Various synthetic methods, such as Turkevich synthesis, reduction with NaBH4, seeding growth, ascorbic acid-based, green synthesis, and Brust-Schiffrin methods, have been used to enhance their stability and features. Functionalization of the AuNP surface has led to the formation of self-assembled monolayers using polymer coatings as capping agents bonded to the nanoparticles. Common chemical-physical characterization techniques are used to determine the size, shape, and surface coverage of AuNPs for their biomedical and biotechnology applications.
