Boundaries of the Hyperconjugation from it-Extended Six- Membered Phosphorus Heterocycles

Abel de Cozar et al.

Summary: In the context of materials science, six-membered phosphorus heterocycles have tunable properties through phosphorus post-functionalization and unique hyperconjugative effects. This study demonstrates that in cationic six-membered phosphorus heterocycles, an increase in hyperconjugation does not affect the S0-S1 gap. The findings highlight the potential of pi-extended systems based on six-membered phosphorus spiroheterocycles for accessing properties beyond those achieved through hyperconjugative effects.

Counterion Migration Driven by Light-Induced Intramolecular Charge Transfer

Ta-Chun Lin et al.

Summary: The research revealed that in weakly polar solvents, excited-state intramolecular charge transfer induces counteranion migration for electrostatic stabilization, with the time scale depending on the radius of the counteranion, the length of the pi-linker, and the viscosity of the solvent. In low-viscosity organic solvents, counteranion migration occurs within several tens to hundreds of picoseconds, resulting in a time-dependent continuous emission phenomenon.

Donor-acceptor-acceptor-type near-infrared fluorophores that contain dithienophosphole oxide and boryl groups: effect of the boryl group on the nonradiative decay†

Yoshiaki Sugihara et al.

Summary: The use of donor-pi-acceptor (D-pi-A) skeletons with amino and boryl moieties as the electron-donating and -accepting groups can produce fluorophores with red-shifted emissions. The introduction of a dithienophosphole P-oxide scaffold as an acceptor-spacer in the D-A-A pi-system results in near-infrared emission fluorophores with high fluorescence quantum yields. The boryl group plays a crucial role in generating intense emission by lowering the nonradiative decay rate constant through reducing non-adiabatic coupling in the internal conversion process.
