Pluronic® triblock copolymer-based nanoformulations for cancer therapy: A 10-year overview

Karine Cappuccio de Castro et al.

Summary: This paper reviews the literature on the use of Pluronic (R) triblock copolymers for drug encapsulation in the past 10 years. It focuses on the progress of drug delivery systems (e.g. micelles, liposomes, micro/nanoemulsions, hydrogels and nanogels, polymersomes and niosomes) and discusses the benefits of Pluronic (R) triblock copolymers as biological response modifiers and pharmaceutical additives, adjuvants, and stabilizers. The paper also highlights the advantages and limitations of developing site-specific targeting approaches based on Pluronic-based nanostructures in cancer treatment, as well as innovative examples for improving tumor cytotoxicity while reducing side effects.

Designing Highly Stable Poly(sarcosine)-Based Telodendrimer Micelles with High Drug Content Exemplified with Fulvestrant

Qing Yu et al.

Summary: Polymeric micelles have been widely utilized as nanocarriers for delivering chemotherapeutic agents to improve cancer treatment efficacy. Developing telodendrimer micelles as a nanocarrier for poorly water-soluble drugs, such as fulvestrant, has shown great promise in achieving high drug loading capacity and stability. The versatility of these telodendrimer-based micelle systems in efficiently delivering both conjugated and encapsulated drugs with high stability makes them a promising drug delivery system for various therapeutic targets.

Viscoelastic Phase Patterning in Artificial Protein Hydrogels

Peter B. Rapp et al.

Summary: In this study, we utilized an artificial protein hydrogel to achieve viscoelastic phase separation and spontaneously form highly dynamic phase patterns. Local phase separation was initiated by mild photobleaching, allowing the evolution of non-equilibrium structures under the influence of surface tension and viscoelastic stresses.

Recent advances in the self-assembly of sparsely grafted amphiphilic copolymers in aqueous solution

Yusuke Sakamoto et al.

Summary: The self-assembly of amphiphilic block copolymers is a powerful tool for fabricating nanoparticles with various nanostructures in aqueous solutions. The self-assembly behavior of amphiphilic copolymers is influenced by polymer architecture, and amphiphilic graft copolymers exhibit unique self-assembly behavior, forming nanostructures that cannot be formed by block polymers. However, the self-assembly of amphiphilic graft copolymers is still relatively unexplored.

Multicompartment Nanoparticles Bearing Hydrophilic/Hydrophobic Subdomains by Self-Assembly of Star Polymers in Aqueous Solution

Haohui Huo et al.

Summary: This study presents the first example of protein-like multicompartment nanoparticles formed via self-assembly of a specifically designed 21-arm star polymer, PEG(PAA-b-PS)(20). The morphology of the MCNs is determined by the volume ratio of PS to PAA, and unique string structures composed of one-dimensional alignment of single-star polymers were observed for the first time. A new mechanism for the assembly of star polymers was proposed based on investigations under different conditions, suggesting potential applications in drug delivery and catalysis.
