Recyclable cyclic bio-based acrylic polymer via pairwise monomer enchainment by a trifunctional Lewis pair

Yanjiao Song et al.

Summary: This study reports a method for synthesizing authentic cyclic acrylic polymers from bio-based monomers using a tethered B-P-B trifunctional catalyst. Detailed studies have revealed the initiation and propagation mechanism, and proposed a hypothesis for the catalyst-regulated ring expansion and cyclization process. Compared to their linear counterparts, these cyclic polymers exhibit higher onset decomposition temperature, narrower degradation window, and maintain high chemical recyclability.

Cyclic poly(β-amino ester)s with enhanced gene transfection activity synthesized through intra-molecular cyclization

Chenfei Wang et al.

Summary: Topological structure plays a critical role in gene delivery of cationic polymers. Cyclic poly(beta-amino ester)s (CPAEs) were synthesized successfully through sequential Michael addition and free radical initiating ring-closure reaction. The CPAEs exhibit superior gene transfection efficiency and safety profile compared to their linear counterparts.

Synthesis of well-defined cyclic glycopolymers and the relationship between their physical properties and their interaction with lectins

Masanori Nagao et al.

Summary: Cyclic polymers, with a distinct topology compared to linear polymers, have the potential to be novel nanomaterials. This study reports the synthesis of well-defined cyclic glycopolymers with functional units for biomolecular recognition, and evaluates their physical properties, including molecular mobility. It is found that the suppressed molecular mobility of the cyclic glycopolymers weakens their interactions with target proteins, highlighting the influence of polymer topology on molecular recognition.

Facile synthesis of monocyclic, dumbbell-shaped and jellyfish-like copolymers using a telechelic multisite hexablock copolymer

Yingsheng Zhu et al.

Summary: The combination of cyclic and comblike blocks in architectural polymers can provide insight into topology-dependent physical properties. A telechelic multisite hexablock copolymer has been designed to enrich the family of jellyfish-like polymers (JFPs) with a macrocycle-bearing backbone. Depending on the topology, composition, and solution pH, distinct nano-objects can be fabricated by self-assembly.

Cyclic Poly(α-peptoid)s by Lithium bis(trimethylsilyl)amide (LiHMDS)-Mediated Ring-Expansion Polymerization: Simple Access to Bioactive Backbones

Pedro Salas-Ambrosio et al.

Summary: This study presents a simple method for the synthesis of cyclic poly(alpha-peptoids) using LiHMDS promoted ring-expansion polymerization (REP) from N-alkylated-N-carboxyanhydrides (NNCA). The new method allows the use of lysine-like monomers in REP to design bioactive macrocycles with potential pharmaceutical applications against Clostridioides difficile. This novel approach offers a more efficient and straightforward route compared to traditional methods.
