Synthesis of esters and amides of 2-aryl-1-hydroxy-4-methyl-1H-imidazo- le-5-carboxylic acids and study of their antiviral activity against orthopoxviruses

P. A. Nikitina et al.

Summary: Despite the eradication of smallpox over 40 years ago, it remains important to consider orthopoxviruses that are harmful to humans. The cessation of smallpox vaccination in 1980 led to a decrease in cross immunity against other orthopoxvirus infections, resulting in a worrisome monkeypox outbreak in 2022. Although FDA-approved drugs exist, the search for new small-molecule inhibitors for orthopoxviruses continues.

Growth performance and mineral analysis of Pleurotus ostreatus (oyster mushroom) cultivated on spent mushroom medium mixed with rubber tree sawdust

Fathie Ahmad Zakil et al.

Summary: The objective of this study was to explore the potential application of spent mushroom substrate (SMS) in Pleurotus ostreatus mushroom production. The results showed that a mixture of 50% SMS and 50% rubber sawdust (RS) had a higher yield, biological efficiency, and faster mycelium growth compared to the control substrate of 100% RS. It was also found that potassium was the most concentrated macroelement and heavy metal concentrations were within permissible limits. These findings suggest that SMS can be an effective solution for disposal and a suitable medium for cultivating Pleurotus spp. when combined with RS.
