Structures, Thermal Properties, and Reactivities of Cationic Rh-cod Complexes in Solid State (cod=1,5-Cyclooctadiene)

Ryo Sumitani et al.

Summary: Cationic rhodium complexes with 1,5-cyclooctadiene (cod) ligands were synthesized and their solid-state structures, thermal properties, and reactivities were investigated. The phase transitions of these salts resulted in disordered solid-state structures, with an increase in structural disorder as the cation symmetry decreased. FSA salts showed lower crystal symmetry and less cation disorder compared to SbF6 salts. Additionally, thermal stabilities and reactivities of these salts were studied, revealing different reactions upon melting for FSA and SbF6 salts.

Summary: In order to obtain thermochromic systems for potential applications in solar energy storage, the behavior of sugar-based ionic liquid complexes was evaluated as a function of temperature. Structural changes in the cation, the nature of the anion, and the IL solvent were considered, highlighting their defining role in determining performance. Most systems exhibit a chromogenic transition from pink to blue in a temperature range suitable for practical applications, with thin films embedded in a polymeric matrix showing high recyclability and long life.
