Effect of chemical substituents attached to the zwitterion cation on dielectric constant

Wenwen Mei et al.

Summary: Chemical substituents on the zwitterionic liquid cation have a significant impact on the high dielectric constant, particularly in terms of molecular reorientation contribution. The chemical structure of zwitterionic liquids can be modulated by adding different substituents, which in turn affects their performance under applied fields.

Zwitterions Raise the Dielectric Constant of Soft Materials

Wenwen Mei et al.

Summary: Materials with high dielectric constants are crucial for energy storage and actuators. By adding zwitterions, which are small molecules with a cation and an anion separated by covalent bonds, a significant increase in dielectric constants can be achieved. The nonlinear increase of dielectric constants at elevated zwitterion concentrations eventually saturates due to strong Coulombic interactions between zwitterions.

Summary: Cell cryopreservation is essential for long-term storage, but some cell lines cannot be efficiently cryopreserved. Research shows that a synthetic zwitterion solution can achieve good cryopreservation, but not with high efficiency for certain cells. Further study on the cryoprotective effects and mechanisms of zwitterions is needed for optimization and better results.
