Alginate Calcium Microbeads Containing Chitosan Nanoparticles for Controlled Insulin Release

Jinglei Li et al.

Summary: An effective delivery system for oral insulin administration was developed using alginate microbeads containing chitosan nanoparticles (CNP) for controlled release of insulin. The optimized CNP with a size around 150 nm and encapsulation efficiency of 23.70% showed promising potential for oral insulin delivery. The insulin-loaded alginate microbeads significantly lowered blood glucose level in hyperglycemia model mice in a controlled manner for up to 96 hours, demonstrating the potential for extended release of insulin.

Chitosan-based drug delivery systems: From synthesis strategy to osteomyelitis treatment - A review

Fenghua Tao et al.

Summary: Chitosan, a cationic polysaccharide extracted from chitin, has gained attention in bacterial inhibition and drug delivery. Local antibiotic delivery after surgical debridement using chitosan-based biomaterials is effective in overcoming antibiotic resistance and reducing systemic toxicity in the treatment of osteomyelitis. This review highlights recent advances and future perspectives in utilizing chitosan-based drug delivery systems for osteomyelitis treatment.

Immunostimulatory effect of chitosan and quaternary chitosan: A review of potential vaccine adjuvants

Xiaomin Li et al.

Summary: Chitosan and its derivatives have shown the ability to activate antigen-presenting cells and induce cytokine stimulation, leading to an effective immune response and balancing of Th1/Th2 response. Among these derivatives, quaternized chitosan shows even greater potential as an adjuvant material.

Core-shell chitosan microsphere with antimicrobial and vascularized functions for promoting skin wound healing

Hao Li et al.

Summary: This study developed chitosan (CS) microspheres with a core-shell structure encapsulating antimicrobial polypeptide (PonG1) and bFGF to effectively treat bacterial infection in wound locations and speed up wound healing. In vivo experiments demonstrated that CS microspheres containing PonG1 and bFGF had the best neovascularization and anti-inflammatory effects, with the strongest ability to repair skin wounds.
