Tuning Ion/Electron Conducting Properties at Electrified Interfaces for Practical All-Solid-State Li-Metal Batteries

Junze Guo et al.

Summary: Poly(ethylene oxide) (PEO) based solid-state electrolytes show potential for practical all solid-state Li-metal batteries (ASSLMBs) due to their good chemical stability. However, the use of thin PEO presents a risk of short circuit in its semi-molten state, and PEO can be oxidatively decomposed by cathodes under high voltage, hindering the practical application of PEO-based ASSLMBs. In this study, the introduction of Nanodiamonds (NDs) into PEO electrolytes is found to greatly improve the electrochemical performance of PEO-based batteries by readjusting the Li+ and e(-) conductivity at the anode/cathode interface.

Fully Exposed Platinum Clusters on a Nanodiamond/Graphene Hybrid for Efficient Low-Temperature CO Oxidation

Zhimin Jia et al.

Summary: A fundamental understanding of active sites in heterogeneous catalysts is crucial for the development of effective catalysts. In this study, different forms of Pt species were prepared on a nanodiamond/graphene support, and it was found that the atomically dispersed and fully exposed Pt clusters had the highest utilization efficiency of low-coordinated metal sites. The 0.5 wt% Pt-n/ND@G catalyst showed superior catalytic performance for CO oxidation at low temperature compared to single-atom and nanoparticle catalysts, which was attributed to the weakened CO adsorption and facilitated O2 dissociative adsorption on these atomically dispersed and fully exposed Pt cluster catalysts.

Nanodiamonds as a platform for targeted delivery of chlorin-based photosensitizers to cancer cells

D. A. Gvozdev et al.

Summary: Nanodiamonds are considered an effective delivery platform for photosensitizers due to their good sorption properties and low biological toxicity. Formation of hybrid complexes in aqueous solution prevents generation of reactive oxygen species until the complex reaches the target. Photosensitizers leave the complex in the presence of lipid membranes and exhibit their photodynamic activity, while modification of the nanodiamond surface by transferrin can enhance the efficiency of photodynamic inactivation of cancer cells.
