Thiaethanodiamondoids (1-7 cages) and higher ethanodiamondoids (4-7 cages), two categories of diamondoid compounds, were discovered and characterized for the first time. The conformers of these compounds were identified as well. This discovery was made possible through the innovative multi-dimensional mass spectrometry (MS) strategy, which also has potential for the MS characterization of unreported natural products in complex matrices.
