Rotating Micro-Spheres for adsorption monitoring at a fluid interface

J. Martin-Roca et al.

Summary: The study explores the importance of understanding the dynamics of adsorbing colloidal particles for material design, and proposes a method to track adsorption/desorption dynamics in the early stages and estimate approximate values of adsorption/desorption constants. Experimental results show that the addition of a monovalent salt or a cationic (anionic) surfactant promotes (inhibits) both adsorption and formation of permanent bonds between particles.

Migration and Spreading of Droplets across a Fluid-Fluid Interface in Microfluidic Coflow

Shamik Hazra et al.

Summary: This study investigates the migration and spreading of droplets in high interfacial tension interfaces under microfluidic confinements. It is found that the contact between droplets and the co-flow interface is influenced by the confinement ratio and the capillary numbers of the co-flowing streams. The study also reveals the phenomena of droplet migration and spreading at the interface, and analyzes the time evolution process of droplet spreading.

The influence of temporal heating modulation on non-isothermal floating droplet dynamics

Alexander Nepomnyashchy et al.

Summary: This study investigates the effect of temporal heating modulation on Marangoni flows in a droplet on a liquid substrate. The numerical simulations, based on long-wave amplitude equations and precursor model, demonstrate that temporal modulation can induce shape changes in the droplet, resulting in the formation of rhombic droplets. Additionally, modulated cooling from below can lead to periodic or quasiperiodic oscillations, or even the decomposition of the droplet.

Solid particles moving parallel to a deformable liquid-liquid interface in a micro-channel: migration forces

Desiree Ruiz-Martin et al.

Summary: This work focuses on the dynamics of solid particles flowing near a deformable interface formed by two co-flowing immiscible fluids in a microchannel. The study systematically analyzes the influence of various parameters on the hydrodynamic force exerted on the particles. The analysis includes both the pure inertial regime and the pure capillary regime, revealing the interaction mechanisms between the particles and the interface.
