Suppressing vanadium dissolution in 2D V2O5/MXene heterostructures via organic/aqueous hybrid electrolyte for stable zinc ion batteries

Yingying Mei et al.

Summary: Zinc ion batteries (ZIBs) are considered promising candidates for large-scale energy storage devices due to their intrinsic safety and low cost. However, the limited cycling life caused by cathode dissolution in traditional aqueous electrolytes hinders their practical applications. In this study, an organic/aqueous hybrid electrolyte was proposed to pair with 2D vanadium hydrate oxide/Ti3C2 MXene heterostructure cathodes, greatly enhancing the stability of ZIBs. The optimized organic/aqueous hybrid electrolyte demonstrated superior zinc storage performance, providing a potential solution for constructing durable ZIBs.

Summary: A low-temperature aqueous Pb-quinone battery system based on PCHL-rGO was developed, showing extraordinary electrochemical performance even at -70 degrees C. By modulating the interaction between SO42- and water molecules, the hydrogen bonds between water molecules in the electrolyte can be significantly damaged, lowering the freezing point of the electrolyte and solving the capacity loss issue of conventional aqueous batteries in cold environments.

Influence of anion substitution on 3D-architectured Ni-Co-A (A=H, O, P) as efficient cathode materials towards rechargeable Zn-based battery

Wen Liu et al.

Summary: This study investigates the effect of anion substitution on cathode materials for Zn batteries using 3D-architected F doping Ni/Co hydroxides/oxides/phosphides as model materials. The results show that anion substitution significantly influences the surface-dominated redox behaviors while reversible capacity is mainly produced by the valence change of metal cations. Among the three samples, FNCP exhibits the highest capacity but an inferior cycling stability, while FNCO shows a balanced characteristic of good capacity and superior cycling performance. The study provides insights into how anions affect electrochemical energy storage and offers feasibility in designing high capacity and durable cathode materials for aqueous Zn-based batteries.
