Amphiphilic Nanointerface: Inducing the Interfacial Activation for Lipase

Jihang Zhang et al.

Summary: This study investigates the use of graphene-based materials as immobilized enzymes in the field of biocatalysis. The researchers designed a nanobiological interface between graphene oxide (GO) and lipase TL, which could be tuned through molecular dynamics simulations and chemical modulation. The reduced graphene oxide (rGO) showed improved catalytic activity compared to GO, and 4 hours of reduction with ascorbic acid yielded the highest enzyme activity. The study also explored the drawbacks of hydrophobic nanomaterials on enzyme production and suggested the potential of hydrophilic nanomaterials in enhancing enzyme activity.

Hydration and its Hydrogen Bonding State on a Protein Surface in the Crystalline State as Revealed by Molecular Dynamics Simulation

Hiroshi Nakagawa et al.

Summary: Protein hydration is crucial for stability and molecular recognition, with hydrophilic residues being more hydrated than hydrophobic ones. Increasing water content leads to uniform hydration of all residues in the protein, with the number of hydrogen bonds per water molecule approaching 4. The hydrogen bond structure of hydration water in protein crystals remains similar to the tetrahedral structure of bulk water across different hydration levels.

Effect of nanoparticles on interfacial mass transfer characteristics and mechanisms in liquid-liquid extraction by molecular dynamics simulation

Fengyun Zhang et al.

Summary: The addition of nanoparticles can enhance interfacial mass transfer, with hydrophilic nanoparticles promoting mass transfer and hydrophobic/amphiphilic nanoparticles inhibiting solute transfer. The smallest size nanoparticles at maximum concentration lead to the highest enhancement of mass transfer.

Micro-Aqueous Organic System: A Neglected Model in Computational Lipase Design?

Shang Wang et al.

Summary: This study used MD simulations to explore the mechanisms of lipases in micro-aqueous organic solvent (MAOS) media, finding that water molecules aggregated on the protein surface play a major role in determining the unique conformations of lipases in these systems. Additionally, the formation of two water shells around lipase and the different dynamic open states of lipases in MAOS systems compared to other solvent environments were observed. This emphasizes the importance of considering the microenvironment when simulating lipase-catalyzed reactions in organic media.
