Efficient CO2 reduction to reveal the piezocatalytic mechanism: From displacement current to active sites

Zhuoran Ren et al.

Summary: Piezocatalysis has attracted increasing interest as a novel catalytic method, but the mechanisms behind it are not fully understood. In this study, we introduce displacement current and the principle of a piezoelectric nanogenerator to comprehensively understand the piezocatalytic mechanism. Through synthesizing a Co-N-C@BaTiO3 piezocatalyst and conducting experiments under ultrasonic vibration, we achieve a high CO2 reduction rate with high selectivity. We propose a comprehensive piezocatalytic mechanism supported by experimental results and analysis.

Tailoring photoactivity of polymeric carbon nitride via donor-p-acceptor network

Toshali Bhoyar et al.

Summary: The study demonstrates that molecular doping with 2,3-diaminopyridine (DAP) can effectively enhance the photocatalytic hydrogen production activity of polymeric carbon nitride (PCN) and form a D-pi-A type network. DAP-doped PCN exhibits rapid charge carrier separation and extended light-harvesting ability, with theoretical analysis showing near-ideal hydrogen production performance.

Peroxydisulfate activation by sulfur-doped ordered mesoporous carbon: Insight into the intrinsic relationship between defects and 1O2 generation

Shiyu Liu et al.

Summary: The carbon-catalyzed persulfate-based advanced oxidation process (PS-AOP) has gained attention for its green and economical nature. Sulfur-doped ordered mesoporous carbons (S-OMCs) were used to activate peroxydisulfate (PDS) for ciprofloxacin (CIP) removal. The study found a correlation between defect level and O-1(2) yield, and investigated the impact of various reaction conditions and water matrix. The S-OMC-1000/PDS activation system showed promising results for CIP removal, even in the presence of common inorganic anions and natural organic matter (NOM).

In-depth insight into the mechanism on photocatalytic synergistic removal of antibiotics and Cr (VI): The decisive effect of antibiotic molecular structure

Qiang Zhang et al.

Summary: In this study, a synergistic effect on the photocatalytic removal of antibiotics and hexavalent chromium (Cr (VI)) is achieved using ultra-thin g-C3N4. The mechanism of this synergistic effect is deeply studied at the molecular level through experiments and theoretical calculations. Antibiotics molecules are found to act as electron donors, accelerating the separation of photo-generated electron-hole pairs and increasing the participation of electrons/holes in the redox reaction. Another important finding is the linear relationship between the electron-donating capacity and the synergistic efficiency.
