Attrition and attrition-resistance of oxygen carrier in chemical looping process - A comprehensive review

Fang Liu et al.

Summary: This study provides a comprehensive review of oxygen carrier (OC) attrition in chemical looping technology, including mechanisms, measurement methods, simulation models, and methods to reduce attrition. Despite severe attrition found in many studies, there is no systematic understanding of OC attrition in the chemical looping field. Therefore, future studies should provide more complete particle parameters to construct a more comprehensive database and gain further insight into the attrition mechanism of OC.

Chemical looping co-conversion of CH4 and CO2 using Fe2O3/Al2O3 pellets as both oxygen carrier and catalyst in a fluidized bed reactor

Zhihao Zhou et al.

Summary: Chemical looping reforming of CH4 (CH4-CLR) is a safe and efficient technology for syngas production, with Fe2O3-based oxygen carriers (OCs) showing potential for high syngas selectivity despite CO2 inhibition. Introducing Fe2O3/Al2O3 pellets as OCs and catalysts in a fluidized-bed reactor helps eliminate the CO2 inhibition effect, converting both CO2 and CH4 into syngas while demonstrating good stability in cyclic tests. This suggests the practical potential of this OC/catalyst pair.

Mn-doped Ca2Fe2O5 oxygen carrier for chemical looping gasification of biogas residue: Effect of oxygen uncoupling

Beibei Yan et al.

Summary: This study investigates the feasibility of chemical looping gasification (CLG) for the treatment and utilization of biogas residue derived from kitchen waste. It develops a novel oxygen carrier, Mn-doped Ca2Fe2O5 (MCF), and compares its performance to traditional Ca2Fe2O5 (CF) oxygen carrier. Results show that CLG with MCF demonstrates superior performance in gas yield, carbon conversion, and cold gas efficiency due to its oxygen uncoupling capability.

On the optimization of physical and chemical stability of a Cu/Al2O3 impregnated oxygen carrier for chemical looping combustion

M. T. Izquierdo et al.

Summary: This study evaluated the stability of a CuO/Al2O3 impregnated oxygen carrier during methane chemical looping combustion at high oxygen carrier to fuel ratios. The research found that low oxygen carrier conversion variation reduced copper loss from particles, but reoxidizing the oxygen carrier at high temperatures was difficult due to the formation of CuAlO2. Operating at temperatures around 800 degrees C with low solid conversion variation is recommended to limit copper loss while maintaining physical stability.
