FTIR and rheology study of alginate samples: Effect of radiation

M. Z. I. Mollah et al.

Summary: This study investigated the effect of radiation on the gelling properties of alginate samples. The results showed a clear reduction in molecular weight and loss of gelling properties following irradiation. FTIR analysis revealed a decrease in peak intensity for certain functional groups. Rheological measurements indicated the ability of the samples to form hard and rigid gels. These findings suggest that radiation has a significant impact on the physical properties of alginate.

Functionalized graphene oxide/sodium alginate beads with ion responsiveness for uranium trapping

Yu Nan et al.

Summary: A composite bead consisting of functionalized graphene oxide and sodium alginate has been developed for efficient recovery and reuse of uranium from uranium-containing wastewater. The composite beads exhibit selective adsorption of U(VI) with a maximum adsorption capacity of 704.22 mg/g. Furthermore, the composite beads swell in response to ions, facilitating rapid solid-liquid separation and low energy consumption in U(VI) recovery. Importantly, the beads demonstrate high reusability with an 80.11% adsorption rate after 9 cycles, indicating their potential for extraction and production of U(VI) from wastewater.
