SbVO4 based high capacity potassium anode: a combination of conversion and alloying reactions

Xianhui Yi et al.

Summary: The development of high capacity potassium anodes is crucial for optimizing potassium ion batteries' performance. In this study, SbVO4@RGO anode synthesized by a one-step solvothermal method demonstrates high capacity and cycling stability, with alloying and conversion reactions occurring simultaneously. The anode shows a high capacity of 447.9 mAh g(-1) at 100 mA g(-1) and a cycling life of 500 cycles with a small average capacity decay rate of 0.106% per cycle. The transformation of SbVO4 into Sb and K3VO4 during the initial discharge process, followed by simultaneous reactions with K(+)via alloying/de-alloying and conversion reactions in the subsequent cycles, highlights the potential of SbVO4@RGO for high performance potassium anodes.

The structural evolution of tetradymite-type Sb2Te3 in alkali ion batteries

Conrad Gillard et al.

Summary: Tetradymite-type Sb2Te3 is synthesized using a solid-state method and its electrochemical behavior in Li, Na, and K half-cells is investigated. Conversion and alloying reactions are observed in all systems, with direct evidence of alloying and intercalation reactions seen in Li system. Preliminary investigation of the magnetic properties of Li-intercalated Sb2Te3 shows no significant influence on the magnetic phase transition temperature or induction of superconductivity. High initial capacities are observed for all systems, but rapid capacity fade is noted due to large volume changes and irreversibilities associated with the conversion and alloying reactions.

Potassium-ion battery cathodes: Past, present, and prospects

Zhenrui Wu et al.

Summary: Potassium-ion batteries (KIBs) have demonstrated high energy densities and power densities since 2004, with Prussian blue analogs (PBAs) currently being the most suitable cathodes. Other cathodes, such as tunnel-type manganese oxide and bilayered vanadium pentoxide, also exhibit stable energy densities over 500 Wh kg(-1). However, developing competitive high energy density KIB cathodes with stable and long cycling life remains a challenge.
