Effect of levulinic acid on production of polyhydroxyalkanoates from food waste by Haloferax mediterranei

Anshu Priya et al.

Summary: This study explored the valorization of food waste as a low-cost substrate and evaluated the effect of levulinic acid on PHBV production and composition using H. mediterranei. The optimum concentration of levulinic acid was found to be 5 g/L, which resulted in the maximum yield of 56.70% PHBV. The correlation between levulinic acid concentrations and PHBV production established in this study can serve as an important reference for future large-scale production.
