Thin-film nanocomposite forward osmosis membrane with polydopamine @UiO-66-NH2-modified polypropylene support and its antifouling property

Chunhui Du et al.

Summary: In this study, a thin-film nanocomposite (TFN) forward osmosis (FO) membrane was fabricated by co-depositing dopamine and UiO-66-NH2 onto a polypropylene (PP) support and performing interfacial polymerization. The TFN membrane exhibited improved hydrophilicity and water flux compared to a traditional thin-film composite (TFC) membrane, as well as lower specific salt flux and structural parameter. Furthermore, the TFN membrane showed good antifouling property when separating sodium alginate foulant.

Fabrication of Hierarchically Porous Carbon Nanofibers from Immiscible PAN/PVDF Polymer Blends as Electrode Materials

Cheng Gui et al.

Summary: This study prepared porous carbon nanofibers from non-miscible PAN/PVDF polymer blends using electrospinning and carbonization to obtain electrode materials with high performance and high specific surface area. These electrode materials, directly prepared as electrodes with high-performance and flexibility without the addition of any inactive materials, showed improved electrochemical performance and flexibility. The unique structures and characteristic materials could be excellent candidates for high-performance flexible electrodes, laying a good foundation for wearable devices.

Selection of substrate manufacturing techniques of polyamine-based thin-film composite membranes for forward osmosis process

Issa Ndiaye et al.

Summary: This study compares the techniques used to prepare the support layer of polyamide-thin-film composite forward osmosis membranes, finding that electrospinning produces membranes with lower structural parameters compared to conventional techniques. The internal structure of the support layer has a greater impact on FO water flux than the preparation materials.

Synthesis and characterization of novel thin film composite forward osmosis membrane using charcoal-based carbon nanomaterials for desalination application

Soheil Hadadpour et al.

Summary: In this study, charcoal-based carbon nanomaterial was incorporated into thin film composite membranes to enhance forward osmosis performance. The addition of CNM led to improved water flux and reduced structural parameter of the membranes. The membrane with 0.5 wt% CNM showed the best performance with significantly increased water flux in both FO and PRO modes.
