Effect of Loading on the Water Stability of the Metal-Organic Framework DMOF-1 [Zn(bdc)(dabco)0.5]

Carmen Chen et al.

Summary: This work investigated the degradation of the metal-organic framework DMOF-1 due to water adsorption. As the amount of water vapor adsorbed by DMOF-1 increases, the degradation from hydrolysis accelerates. Molecular simulations showed that water molecules clustering in the void space of DMOF-1 contribute to its degradation. Interestingly, DMOF-1 can remain stable if it adsorbs less than 1 mmol/g of water. The degradation threshold of DMOF-1 remains 1 mmol/g regardless of temperature, suggesting stability towards water vapor at elevated temperatures above 50 degrees C.

Versatile reactions on hydrophobic functionalization of metal-organic frameworks and anticorrosion application

Bing-Han Li et al.

Summary: In this study, four post-synthetic modification (PSM) reactions were used to incorporate alkyl chains onto metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) through various organic transformation reactions. The decorated hydrophobic MOFs were able to eliminate interfacial voids in MOF-polyaniline (PANI) composites, improving their anticorrosion performance. Specifically, the PAZr-C18-5% composite showed significant anticorrosive properties, with corrosion current density reduced from 71.61 to 0.18 mu A/cm2. Additionally, doping hydrophobic MOFs into PANI increased surface hydrophobicity and enhanced gas barrier performance of the composites.
