Metal monovacancy-induced spin polarization for simultaneous energy recovery and wastewater purification

Chao Zhu et al.

Summary: In this study, ZnO with abundant metal monovacancies (Zn-V-m) was fabricated to manipulate the spin state by tailoring the electron occupancy of e(g)-orbitals, which simultaneously endowed the material with both outstanding photocatalytic oxidation and reduction performance. This work accelerates the reaction rates of pollutants degradation and hydrogen generation at the surface interface by manipulating electron spin polarization, guiding the rational design of TMO-based catalysts for simultaneous energy recovery and waste-water purification.

Contrasting effect of lanthanum hydroxide and lanthanum carbonate treatments on phosphorus mobilization in sediment

Danhong Wu et al.

Summary: LC outperforms LH in phosphate adsorption under neutral conditions, while LH performs better in alkaline environments. The adsorption ability of LC for phosphate is greatly influenced by other ions, while LH exhibits stronger stability in phosphate adsorption. LC has lower environmental risks in controlling phosphate release, while LH has a greater negative impact on sediment microbial diversity.

Structural Evolution of Lanthanum Hydroxides during Long-Term Phosphate Mitigation: Effect of Nanoconfinement

Yanyang Zhang et al.

Summary: Lanthanum (La)-based materials are effective in removing phosphate (P) from water to prevent eutrophication. In this study, the evolution of La-P structures and the effects of nanoconfinement on the structural transformation of LaPO4 were explored over a 25-day period. The results showed that nanoconfinement led to faster and more extensive structural transitions, as well as facilitating the reverse transformation of LaPO4 back to La(OH)(3). This work provides a scientific basis for the use of La-based nanocomposites in phosphate mitigation, immobilization, and recycle applications.
