Alanine rich amphiphilic peptides as green substitutes for hydrate inhibitors: A molecular simulation study

Zherui Chen et al.

Summary: Adding amphiphilic peptides as green KHIs substitutes can effectively inhibit hydrate growth by utilizing the vdW interaction between hydrophobic groups and water molecules. Peptides consisting of alanine and lysine (5AK) and alanine and threonine (5AT) have been studied, and it is found that 5AK with more hydrophobic binding sites exhibits a higher inhibitory effect. Additionally, the addition of threonine further improves the inhibitory effect of the peptide. These findings provide theoretical guidance for the development of new KHIs.

Cyclodextrin as a green anti-agglomerant agent in oil-water emulsion containing asphalt

Zherui Chen et al.

Summary: Hydrates form naturally in submarine oil/gas pipelines, causing blockages and posing a threat to safe production. Conventional anti-agglomerant agents are ineffective in pipelines rich in asphalt. However, molecular simulation shows that cyclodextrin (CD) exhibits excellent anti-agglomerant properties in oil-water systems with asphalt. CD interacts with water molecules through stable hydrogen bonds, preventing water droplets from spreading on the hydrate surface. The unique properties of CD provide a molecular basis for the development of more effective and environmentally friendly anti-agglomerant agents.

Displacement Characteristics of CO2 to CH4 in Heterogeneous Surface Slit Pores

Jingyue Sun et al.

Summary: Studying the initial period of CO2-CH4 displacement behavior is crucial for understanding CO2-enhanced shale gas recovery technology. A CO2-CH4 displacement model was developed based on a heterogeneous surface pore, and molecular dynamics simulations were conducted to investigate the effects of depressurization exploitation and injection pressure on displacement behavior. The study found that the displacement process starts with CH4 reverse flow, followed by the injection pressure action stage and positive displacement stage. The extent of CH4 reverse flow significantly affects the system development process and final displacement efficiency. It is important to decrease reservoir pressure during depressurization exploitation and consider displacement efficiency, reservoir safety, and economic cost when selecting CO2 injection pressure. Furthermore, CO2 occupies adsorption sites near graphene faster, while CH4 desorption is faster near montmorillonite (MMT), emphasizing the importance of considering the characteristics of different materials in the displacement process.

Rui Xu et al.

Summary: A green kaolin@Fe-Mn binary (hydr)oxides composite synthesized by iron oxidizing bacteria (IOB) mediation was developed as a potential adsorbent for the simultaneous removal of antimony (Sb) and arsenic (As) from contaminated water. The composite showed high specific surface area and pore volume, and exhibited efficient removal of Sb and As with adsorption capacities of 177.19, 56.26, 62.92, and 42.18 mg/g for Sb(III), Sb(V), As(III), and As(V), respectively. The kinetics data followed the pseudo-second-order kinetic and Elovich models, and the mechanism of adsorption involved inner-sphere complexation, surface complexation, hydrogen bonding, and oxidation.

Revealing the effects of terminal groups of MXene on the water desalination performance

Xinyao Ma et al.

Summary: The effects of termination group of MXene membrane on its water desalination performance were investigated using molecular dynamics simulation. The simulation results showed that the surface charge features and hydrogen bond interactions significantly influenced the interactions between termination group and water. The water permeability through MXene channel with different surface terminations followed the order of F > O > OH, and the charge nature of surface terminations played a vital role in their interactions with ions.
