Reductive dissolution of jarosite by inorganic sulfur compounds catalyzed by Acidithiobacillus thiooxidans

Hong-Rui Chen et al.

Summary: The adsorption of jarosite and passivation of mineral surfaces negatively affect metal extraction and the fate of other elements in biohydrometallurgical processes. This study found that At. thiooxidans can catalyze the reductive dissolution of jarosite, with Na2SO3 being the most suitable electron donor for DIRSO.

Mineral transformation and dissolution of jarosite coprecipitated with hazardous oxyanions and their mobility changes

Jae-Geun Ryu et al.

Summary: The type of oxyanion species and pH values significantly influence the mineral transformation and dissolution rates of jarosite-containing oxyanions. At pH 8, the transformation and dissolution rates of jarosite samples are noticeably higher than at pH 4. Different oxyanions in jarosite have varying effects on resulting sulfate and oxyanion concentrations in solution.

The effect of curing on arsenic precipitation and kinetic study of pressure oxidation of pyrite and arsenopyrite

Wei Sung Ng et al.

Summary: In the treatment of arsenic-bearing refractory gold ores, pressure oxidation (POX) is an effective method for arsenic immobilisation. The study focused on the effect of curing time and temperature on the properties of the arsenic-bearing product following POX. It was found that the major arsenic-bearing phase and its stability varied with the Fe:As feed ratio. The presence of arsenopyrite enhanced pyrite oxidation, while the reaction of arsenopyrite was limited by surface chemical reaction.

Kinetics and mechanism of arsenopyrite leaching in nitric acid solutions in the presence of pyrite and Fe(III) ions

Denis Rogozhnikov et al.

Summary: The study investigates the kinetics and oxidation mechanism of arsenopyrite in nitric acid media, as well as the influence of pyrite on dissolution characteristics. The addition of Fe(III) ions and an increase in nitric acid concentration both enhance the nitric acid leaching of arsenopyrite. Pyrite likely catalyzes the leaching process in the early stage by providing an alternative surface for the reduction of nitrate ions in electrochemical contact with arsenopyrite.
