On the Effect of Cobalt Promotion over Ni/CeO2 Catalyst for CO2 Thermal and Plasma Assisted Methanation

Golshid Hasrack et al.

Summary: In recent years, carbon dioxide hydrogenation has been proposed as a promising technology for stabilizing anthropogenic greenhouse gas emissions by producing synthetic fuels and value-added molecules. This study investigated the effects of cobalt promotion on thermal CO2 methanation and non-thermal plasma (NTP)-assisted CO2 methanation using 15Ni/CeO2 catalysts with 1% and 5% cobalt. The promotion effect of cobalt was observed in both plasma and thermal reactions and was mainly attributed to the basic properties of the materials.

A brass-mesh structured photoreactor applied in the photocatalytic degradation of RB5 dye

Emerson F. M. da Silva et al.

Summary: A photocatalytic structured reactor of calcined brass-mesh monolith immobilized with TiO2 was used for textile dye photodegradation. The effects of feed flow, pH medium, and radiation source on photocatalytic efficiency were investigated. The results showed that flow modification did not significantly affect the degradation of the dye chromophore group, and the use of solar radiation had a positive impact on photocatalytic efficiency. The monolithic system exhibited good stability and high degradation after consecutive cycles of photocatalytic reaction.

Performance comparison between washcoated and packed-bed monolithic reactors for the low-temperature Fischer-Tropsch synthesis

Maria Ibanez et al.

Summary: Co-Re catalyst particles were washcoated and packed to structure parallel channel monoliths for low-temperature Fischer-Tropsch synthesis. The study compared the two methods in terms of catalyst hold-up, heat transfer properties, and pressure drop. Washcoating led to lower pressure drops but also reduced catalyst inventory, while washcoated monoliths showed more effective performance in C5+ production. The study suggests that moderate internal mass transport restrictions are beneficial for low-temperature FTS.

Ru/Ce/Ni Metal Foams as Structured Catalysts for the Methanation of CO2

Stefano Cimino et al.

Summary: The development of highly conductive structured catalysts with enhanced mass- and heat-transfer features is needed for the intensification of strongly exothermic catalytic hydrogenation of CO2. Thin porous CeO2 layers deposited on Ni foams produced active catalytic sites for the hydrogenation of CO2, and the dispersion of Ru within the pores of the CeO2 layer further boosted the methanation activity.

A Short Review on Ni-Catalyzed Methanation of CO2: Reaction Mechanism, Catalyst Deactivation, Dynamic Operation

Peter Strucks et al.

Summary: As the importance of renewable energies and recycling of climate-changing gases grows, the coupling of methanation with small CO2 sources like biogas plants becomes a viable option. However, the fluctuating availability of renewables for hydrogen production and small storage volumes pose challenges for dynamic process operation, requiring research into catalysts and process design.

Mechanistic Connections between CO2 and CO Hydrogenation on Dispersed Ruthenium Nanoparticles

Haefa Mansour et al.

Summary: This study investigates the catalytic routes for upgrading CO2 to CO and hydrocarbons on dispersed Ru nanoparticles, revealing the elementary steps involved in these reactions and shedding light on the mechanism of CO2 activation. The kinetic hurdles in forming CH4 from CO2 are shown to stem not from the inertness of CO2 itself, but from the intermediate formation of CO molecules and the rate inhibition caused by chemisorbed CO. The findings are based on a combination of spectroscopic, isotopic, and kinetic measurements, highlighting the importance of considering the effects of nanoparticle structure and composition on reactivity and selectivity in CO2-H2 reactions.

Performance comparison between washcoated and packed-bed monolithic reactors for the low-temperature Fischer-Tropsch synthesis

Maria Ibanez et al.

Summary: Washcoating and packing of Co-Re catalyst particles have been compared as structuring methods for parallel channel monoliths in the low-temperature Fischer-Tropsch synthesis. Washcoating resulted in lower pressure drops and higher productivity of C5+ hydrocarbons compared to packing. Both catalyst configurations showed increased productivity with longer characteristic diffusion lengths, indicating that moderate internal mass transport restrictions are beneficial for the low-temperature FTS process.
