Magnetic bioactive glasses/Cisplatin loaded-chitosan (CS)-grafted- poly (ε-caprolactone) nanofibers against bone cancer treatment

Zahra Amini et al.

Summary: Bioactive glasses and magnetic bioactive glasses doped with Cisplatin were incorporated into chitosan-grafted-poly(epsilon-caprolactone) nanofibers for controlled drug release, resulting in accelerated release at lower pH and higher temperature conditions. The optimal concentration for killing MG-63 osteosarcoma cells was found to be 100 μg/mL of nanofibers. Future research may focus on the application of these nanofibers as implantable devices for bone cancer therapy.

Heparanized chitosans: towards the third generation of chitinous biomaterials

Julia Revuelta et al.

Summary: Functionalization of chitosans, particularly through sulfate group modification, is an emerging area of research for designing solutions for a wide range of biomedical applications. The modification of chitosans to mimic heparin and heparan sulfates shows great potential in binding different proteins and modulating cellular responses. Recent advances in the synthesis and characterization of heparanized chitosan demonstrate their ability to mimic heparan sulfates as ligands for proteins, thereby exerting biological activity similar to these glycosaminoglycans.
