Assessment oil composition and species discrimination of Brassicas seeds based on hyperspectral imaging and portable near infrared (NIR) spectroscopy tools and chemometrics

Maria Lucimar da Silva Medeiros et al.

Summary: The study aimed to analyze the oil content and fatty acids of Brassica seeds using portable Near Infrared spectroscopy (NIRS) and NIR-Hyperspectral Imaging (NIR-HSI), as well as classify seed species. Results showed that prediction models based on NIR-HSI spectra were superior and could effectively differentiate between different varieties of Brassica seeds.

Does spatial region of interest (ROI) matter in multispectral and hyperspectral imaging of segmented wheat kernels?

Stephen R. Delwiche et al.

Summary: Advances in optics technology and computational processing have enabled the commercial use of multispectral and hyperspectral imaging in sorting fruits and vegetables, but the application of imaging to single cereal seeds has faced challenges due to the large number of seeds and issues like lighting and curvature. This study found that smaller regions of interest are sufficient for a two-class (accepts, rejects) structure when sorting seeds based on their surface characteristics.
