Enhanced Structural, Optical Properties and Antibacterial Activity of PEO/CMC Doped TiO2 NPs for Food Packaging Applications

Ibrahim A. Alhagri et al.

Summary: This article examines the synthesis, optical, and electrical properties of composites composed of polyethylene oxide (PEO), carboxymethyl cellulose (CMC), and titanium dioxide (TiO2) nanoparticles. Flexible nanocomposite samples of PEO, CMC, and TiO2 nanoparticles were swiftly produced using the cast synthesis method. XRD and FT-IR analysis were conducted to analyze the sample structures. The study demonstrates the effectiveness of the PEO/CMC blend in interacting with TiO2 nanoparticles. The optical properties, such as the energy band gap, were studied using UV/Vis optical absorbance, showing that the energy gap narrows as the TiO2 nanoparticle weight fraction increases. TEM and SEM images reveal the size, shape, and distribution of the TiO2 nanoparticles. The enhanced antibacterial activity in the nanocomposites suggests their potential use in electrochemical devices.

Preparation and Characterization of Electric Double-Layer Capacitors Having a 3D Stainless-Steel Fiber Sheet as the Current Collector

Daisuke Muramatsu et al.

Summary: In this study, a three-dimensional porous current collector comprising stainless-steel fibers is fabricated to improve the performance of electric double-layer capacitors (EDLCs). The unique current collector shows better charge-discharge properties and capacity at higher electrolyte concentrations, as well as minimal capacity degradation and good rate performance. The capacitance values of the EDLC using the stainless-steel fiber sheet current collector are roughly twice that of an EDLC using a flat stainless-steel plate current collector, without any performance degradation even at a higher loading of electrode active materials. These improvements are attributed to the reduction in several resistances, leading to enhanced performance of the EDLC.
