Size-Dependent Thermal Stability and Optical Properties of Ultra-Small Nanodiamonds Synthesized under High Pressure

Evgeny Ekimov et al.

Summary: Properties of nanodiamonds in the quantum-size region, particularly their thermal stability and optical properties, are investigated. It is found that the existing hypothesis about enhanced thermal stability of nanodiamonds smaller than 2 nm is incorrect. The appearance of an enhanced transmission band and the asymmetry of the Raman scattering peak can be explained by the resonance of the diamond Raman mode with the continuum of conductive surface states, known as the Fano effect.

Effects of annealing temperature on the mechanical, optical, and electrical properties of hydrogenated, nitrogen-doped diamond-like carbon films

Hiroya Osanai et al.

Summary: The effects of post-deposition annealing on the properties of nitrogen-doped diamond-like carbon films were investigated under hydrogen dilution conditions. The optical bandgap decreased with increasing annealing temperature, while the critical load increased due to a decrease in internal stress. The amount of bound hydrogen decreased, sp(2) C=C increased, and clustering was accelerated. The lowest friction coefficient and specific wear rate were observed at 347 degrees C. The N-DLC/p-type silicon heterojunction annealed at 347 degrees C showed the highest rectification ratio.

Juping Tu et al.

Summary: The demand for small-angle x-ray scattering (SAXS) windows for in-situ characterization of materials nano-structures in a heated vacuum environment has increased dramatically. High-quality diamond prepared by chemical vapor deposition (CVD) has become the preferred window material. In this study, different quality single-crystal diamond (SCD) and polycrystalline diamond (PCD) films were prepared, and their SAXS properties were investigated at room temperature and under vacuum heating.

Fe-doping induced localized amorphization in ultrathin α-Ni(OH)2 nanomesh for superior oxygen evolution reaction catalysis

Yanhui Song et al.

Summary: Local structure and crystallinity are critical in the catalytic activity of catalysts, and the formation of amorphous phase can significantly enhance catalytic performance. This study successfully achieved controlled amorphization of ultrathin two-dimensional α-Ni(OH)2 nanomeshes through Fe doping, leading to localized amorphization that accelerated reaction kinetics and improved overall performance for the oxygen evolution reaction (OER). The strong correlation between OER activity and amorphization rate suggests that doping-induced localized amorphization provides more accessible active sites and favorable local chemical environments than fully crystallized structures.
