Effect of residual carbon on the phase transformation and microstructure evolution of alumina-mullite fibers prepared by sol-gel method

Qiang Liu et al.

Summary: Sol-gel method is widely used in producing high-property ceramics, and the pyrolysis of precursor significantly affects the microstructure and properties of ceramic materials. This study investigated the effect of residual carbon on the phase transition and microstructure evolution of alumina-mullite fibers. It was found that residual carbon improved the densification of fibers and refined the grain size, and the phase transition paths differed depending on the residual carbon content.

The formation of core-sheath structure and its effects on thermal decomposition and crystallization of alumina fibers

Chen Liang et al.

Summary: The study investigated the effects of preheating time on the microstructure and properties of alumina fibers, revealing that holding time exceeding 2 hours leads to the formation of core-sheath structure. It was further found that different decomposition reactions on the fiber surface and core result in the formation of core-sheath structure.

A review of the research progress on the interface between oxide fiber and oxide ceramic matrix

Zhongkai Xu et al.

Summary: Oxide ceramics exhibit excellent high temperature performance and thermal stability, but are prone to catastrophic damage due to low toughness. By reinforcing and tailoring the interface, the mechanical properties of oxide ceramics can be improved, allowing for wider applications in high-temperature components.

Effect of formic-acid-to-acetic-acid ratio on the structure and spinnability of aqueous aluminium sol of alumina fibre

Chunlan Li et al.

Summary: The structure and spinnability of sols were found to be significantly influenced by the formic-acid-to-acetic-acid molar ratio in aluminium carboxylate sols. An optimal spinnability was achieved when the molar ratio was 1.15:0.85, resulting in α-Al2O3 ceramic fibres with good morphology and uniform diameter distribution after calcination at 1200 degrees C.
