Visible light activated MoS2/ZnO composites for photocatalytic degradation of ciprofloxacin antibiotic and hydrogen production

Summary: In the process of photocatalysis, photon energy is converted into chemical energy using light and catalyst. This process has various applications such as degradation of hazardous compounds, nitrogen fixation, hydrogen production, air purification, water splitting, and carbon dioxide reduction. The study focuses on the synthesis of ZnO and MoS2/ZnO composites and their applications in photocatalytic degradation of ciprofloxacin antibiotic and hydrogen production. The MoS2/ZnO composites show superior photocatalytic activity compared to ZnO, attributed to extended light absorption capacity, effective charge transfer, suitable band alignment, and minimum recombination of charge carriers.

Modification of a Z-scheme ZnO-CuO nanocomposite by Ag loading as a highly efficient visible light photocatalyst

Summary: This study conducted a comparative analysis of ZnO-CuO and ZnO-CuO-Ag nanocomposites from the perspective of characterization and photodegradation mechanism. The results showed that the ZnO-7.5 mol.%CuO nanocomposite with 5 mol.% Ag loading exhibited almost complete photodegradation efficiency toward methylene blue under visible light irradiation. The study also proposed a Z-scheme mechanism for charge transfer and identified superoxide radicals as the main active species involved in photocatalytic reactions.

Effect of Metal Atom in Zeolitic Imidazolate Frameworks (ZIF-8 & 67) for Removal of Dyes and Antibiotics from Wastewater: A Review

Summary: The use of antibiotics and dyes has caused severe water pollution and health risks, necessitating their elimination from water sources. Adsorption and photodegradation are economical, simple, and reusable methods for removing harmful water contaminants. Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs), such as ZIF-8 and ZIF-67, are effective adsorbents and photocatalysts due to their high porosity, adjustability, and crystal structure. This article reviews the design and synthesis methods of ZIF-8 and ZIF-67 composites and discusses their role as adsorbents and photocatalysts in wastewater pollution removal, aiming to provide insights for the development of highly effective ZIF-8/67-based materials.

Construction of highly efficient 0D/2D Bi2MoO6/g-C3N4 heterojunctions for visible-light-driven photodegradation of 1-naphthol

Summary: Photocatalytic degradation is an environmentally friendly method for reducing organic contaminants in wastewater. Highly efficient 0D/2D Bi2MoO6/g-C3N4 heterojunctions were successfully assembled by a one-step hydrothermal method to remove the pollutant 1-naphthol. The photocatalyst exhibited exceptional degradation efficiency due to matched band structures and tightly connected heterojunctions, preventing the recombination of photogenerated carriers. This work introduces a novel method for one-step preparation of 0D/2D photocatalysts and advances the utilization of photodegradation for organic pollutants.

Polyaniline-encapsulated quartz sand as an adsorbent composite for Orange G dye removal from aqueous solution: Experimental and computational study

Summary: This study presents a long-term strategy for utilizing quartz sand as an efficient and low-cost adsorbent by coating it with polyaniline. The resulting hybrid material (QS@PANI) showed excellent performance in removing Orange G dye from aqueous solutions due to the synergistic effect of the quartz sand and polyaniline. The adsorption process was explained through kinetics and equilibrium models, and the material exhibited high removal efficiency even after multiple cycles, making it a promising material for decolorization applications.

Multifunctional and smart Er2O3-ZnO nanocomposites for electronic ceramic varistors and visible light degradation of wastewater treatment

Summary: In this study, erbium-doped zinc oxide nanocomposites were prepared using a combustion method and their effects on the structural and optical properties were investigated. The synthesized nanocomposites showed good crystallinity and high photodegradation efficiency of pollutants under visible light. The results indicate that the Er2O3-ZnO nanostructures have great potential for various nano-applications.

Tuning the optoelectronic properties of benzodithiophene based donor materials and their photovoltaic applications

Summary: The hydrothermal method was used to synthesize TiO2 nanoparticles and TiO2/La2O3, TiO2/Al2O3 composites. The crystal structure, shape, and optical characteristics were studied using FTIR spectroscopy, XRD, UV-Vis absorption spectroscopy, and SEM. Photocatalytic properties were evaluated by degrading methylene blue (MB) and crystal violet (CV) dyes under UV and visible light. TiO2/La2O3 exhibited the highest photocatalytic efficiency, while TiO2/Al2O3 showed the lowest efficiency.

The comparative performance of lightweight green wall media for the removal of xenobiotic organic compounds from domestic greywater

Summary: The study showed that designing green wall media with a mixture of carbon waste materials such as date seeds, coffee grinds, and coco coir can effectively remove XOCs from domestic greywater. A novel BaMg1.98Zn0.02V2O8 ceramic with low dielectric loss and good temperature stability for low temperature co-fired ceramic technology

Summary: In this study, a series of BaMg2-xZnxV2O8 ceramics were successfully synthesized by ionic substitution. The relationship between surface morphology and microwave properties was analyzed, and it was found that the substitution of Mg2+ with Zn2+ can improve densification, lower sintering temperature, and reduce dielectric loss significantly. The BaMg1.98Zn0.02V2O8 ceramic exhibited excellent microwave dielectric properties at the optimum sintering temperature, making it suitable for low-temperature co-firing technology.

The enhanced photocatalytic activity of ZnO nanorods/CuO nanourchins composite prepared by chemical bath precipitation
