Role of active slip systems induced with holmium impurity in Bi-2212 ceramics on mechanical design performance and morphological properties

A. T. Ulgen et al.

Summary: The effect of Ho/Bi partial replacement in Bi-2212 superconductors on their structural, morphological, and mechanical properties was investigated using SEM and Vickers hardness measurements. The results showed that the proper Ho concentration enhanced the characteristics of the superconductors due to improved crystallinity quality and slip systems. However, an excessive amount of Ho ions induced crack-initiating defects. The study also analyzed the indentation size effect and compared different mechanical modeling approaches.

Summary: This study investigates the effects of adding nano-sized magnesium oxide (MgO) powders to the Bi2223 superconducting system. The results show that the lattice parameters and volume fraction of the Bi2223 phase are changed with the addition of nano MgO. The sample with the highest addition of 0.3wt% MgO exhibits the highest volume fraction of the Bi2223 phase and the highest superconducting transition temperature, Tc.

Effects of TiO2 nanoparticle addition on the flux pinning properties of the Bi1.6Pb0.4Sr2Ca2Cu3O10+δ ceramics

An T. Pham et al.

Summary: The effects of adding TiO2 nanoparticles on the flux pinning properties of the BPSCCO system were investigated. The addition of TiO2 decreased the volume fraction of Bi-2223 and degraded the texture structure of the samples. However, it enhanced the critical temperature and critical current density for certain doping levels.

Refinement of some basic features of Zr surface-layered Bi-2223 superconductor with diffusion annealing temperature

E. Orhan et al.

Summary: This study investigates the effects of diffusion annealing temperatures on the structural, morphological, electrical, and superconducting properties of Zr surface-layered Bi-2223 ceramics. The results show that the diffusion of Zr improves the crystallinity and intergranular couplings of the ceramics, leading to enhanced electrical conductivity and superconducting features. The optimal annealing temperature of 800°C is found to stabilize the superconductivity and improve the basic characteristics of the Bi-2223 superconducting systems.

Influence of Sr/Nd partial replacement on fundamental properties of Bi-2223 superconducting system

M. Dogruer et al.

Summary: This comprehensive study investigates the change in flux pinning mechanism, physical, mechanical, and structural characteristics of pure and Sr-site Nd-substituted Bi1.8Pb0.35Sr1.9-yNdyCa2.2Cu3Ox (Bi-2223) systems. The results show that Nd impurity negatively affects the pinning capability of thermal flux motions, copper pairs coupling probabilities, potential energy barriers, crystal structure, and mechanical properties. The Hays-Kendall model is identified as the best method to obtain load-independent Vickers hardness values for the Sr-site Nd-substituted Bi1.8Pb0.35Sr1.9-yNdyCa2.2Cu3Ox (Bi-2223) systems. Additionally, dynamic microhardness measurements reveal a strong dependence of mechanical properties on load and Nd impurity levels.
