Trigeminal and cervical sensitization during the four phases of the migraine cycle in patients with episodic migraine

Stefano Di Antonio et al.

Summary: This study assessed mechanical pain thresholds in patients with episodic migraine during different phases of the migraine cycle and found that patients showed signs of sensitization in the trigeminocervical area throughout the migraine cycle. Sensitization was most prominent during the ictal phase, but also present in the preictal phase and in patients with longer disease duration and higher drug usage.

Trigeminal sensory modulatory effects of galcanezumab and clinical response prediction

Kuan-Po Peng et al.

Summary: Galcanezumab modulates pain thresholds specifically in the V1 dermatome, but this modulation is short-lasting and irrelevant to clinical response. The clinical response may be determined by individual sensibility even before the administration of medication.

Cutaneous Allodynia in Migraine: A Narrative Review

Ane Minguez-Olaondo et al.

Summary: This article reviews the literature on cutaneous allodynia (CA) in migraine. Research shows that approximately 60% of migraine patients experience CA. CA is a marker of central sensitization and is associated with the development of migraine and treatment decisions.

Pain sensitivities predict prophylactic treatment outcomes of flunarizine in chronic migraine patients: A prospective study

Li-Ling Hope Pan et al.

Summary: The study found that chronic migraine patients generally had higher sensitivity compared to healthy controls, and preventive treatment with flunarizine is particularly suitable for chronic migraine patients with relatively normal sensitivity to mechanical or heat pain.
