Prediction of optimal ranges of mix ratio of self-compacting mortars (SCMs) based on response surface method (RSM)

Lixiao Li et al.

Summary: The study systematically investigated the effects of constituents on the rheological and mechanical properties of self-compacting mortars, with a focus on factors such as fly ash and sand-to-binder ratio. It was found that an optimal range of FA, SF, s/b, w/b between 10-20%, 6-10%, 1.1-1.2, 0.35-0.36 respectively resulted in better workability and greater compressive strength of SCMs.

Optimization of foam concrete characteristics using response surface methodology and artificial neural networks

Bilal Kursuncu et al.

Summary: In this study, the influences of waste marble powder (WMP) and rice husk ash (RHA) on compressive and flexural strength, porosity, and thermal conductivity coefficient of foam concrete were investigated using Response Surface Methodology (RSM) and Artificial Neural Networks (ANN) methods. The results showed that foam WMP and RHA were the most influential parameters for compressive and flexural strength, as well as porosity and thermal conductivity coefficient. The RSM and ANN methods were found to be suitable for estimating the responses and determining the effective parameters. The optimum parameters were determined using the RSM method.

Effectiveness of multiscale hybrid fiber reinforced cementitious composites under single degree of freedom hydraulic shaking table

Mingli Cao et al.

Summary: This study evaluated the properties of steel fibers, PVA fibers, and calcium carbonate whisker hybrid FRCC using a single degree of freedom hydraulic shaking table. Different mix proportions and fiber lengths were considered, and it was found that multiscale hybrid fibers offer resistances against crack growth under dynamic load, leading to improved displacement, strain, and acceleration properties.

Optimization of calcium carbonate whisker reinforced cement paste for rheology and fracture properties using response surface methodology

Chaopeng Xie et al.

Summary: The study evaluated the rheological and mechanical properties of calcium carbonate whisker (CW) reinforced cement paste, showing that the addition of CW increased the yield stress, plastic viscosity, and fracture toughness. The microcrack resistance effect of CW was identified as a key factor in improving the properties of the cement paste.

Uniaxial Tensile Behavior, Flexural Properties, Empirical Calculation and Microstructure of Multi-Scale Fiber Reinforced Cement-Based Material at Elevated Temperature

Li Li et al.

Summary: This study investigated the uniaxial tensile and flexural properties of multi-scale fiber reinforced cement matrix composites (MSFRCs) under high temperatures, revealing a decrease in some properties with increasing temperature, but a slower decline at 600 degrees Celsius. The uniaxial tensile properties were found to be more sensitive to temperature and degraded more rapidly. The multi-scale hybrid fiber system significantly alleviated the deterioration of the mechanical properties of the cement-based composites under high temperatures.

Effect of Calcium Carbonate Whisker on Impact Toughness of Precast Concrete

Lu Linnu et al.

Summary: The addition of calcium carbonate whisker has a significant impact on the impact toughness of steam cured concrete at 55 degrees Celsius, but the effect is limited on specimens cured at 90 degrees Celsius. Through SEM, XRD, and LF-NMR analysis, the study investigated the micro morphology, hydration product components, and pore structure of the concrete, analyzing the mechanism of how calcium carbonate whisker influences the impact toughness and compressive strength of concrete.
