Setting Behavior and Phase Evolution on Heat Treatment of Metakaolin-Based Geopolymers Containing Calcium Hydroxide

Byoungkwan Kim et al.

Summary: The setting behavior and phase evolution of geopolymer containing calcium hydroxide were investigated. A low dose of calcium hydroxide can improve the compressive strength of geopolymers, and the reaction products transform into Si-rich nepheline and wollastonite.

Study of the reaction stages of alkali-activated cementitious materials using microcalorimetry

Ary Alain Hoyos-Montilla et al.

Summary: The study evaluated the roles of sodium hydroxide, calcium hydroxide, and temperature on the reaction stages and heat flow evolution of alkali-activated coal fly ash. The factors were found to significantly influence the dissolution of ash rich in aluminium units, diffusion-nucleation processes, formation of reaction products, and the efficiency of alkali activation at high temperatures.

Effect of Ca(OH)2 Addition on the Engineering Properties of Sodium Sulfate Activated Slag

Xiaodi Dai et al.

Summary: This study investigates the effects of calcium hydroxide (Ca(OH)(2)) addition on sodium sulfate activated ground granulated blast furnace slag (GGBFS). Results show that Ca(OH)(2) addition can substantially increase early age compressive strength and shorten setting times. Additionally, excessive Ca(OH)(2) incorporation may lead to a less well-packed microstructure, while the main reaction products in this case are chain-structured C-A-S-H gels and ettringite.
