Effect of particle concentration on lubrication performance of cellulose nanocrystalline (CNC) water-based lubricants: mixed lubrication regime

Behzad Zakani et al.

Summary: Industrial lubricants improve machinery performance by reducing wear and friction between mechanical components. Developing eco-friendly lubricants is crucial for environmental protection. This study investigates the effect of nanoparticle concentration on the lubrication performance of cellulose nanocrystal (CNC) aqueous suspensions, and finds an optimum concentration range under mixed lubrication mode.

A novel method for producing cellulose nanoparticles and their possible application as thickeners for biodegradable low-temperature greases

Svetlana N. Gorbacheva et al.

Summary: A novel method has been suggested to produce micro- and nanoparticles of cellulose through phase separation in a mixture of N-methylmorpholine N-oxide and dimethyl sulfoxide, using cooling or a precipitant. The size and crystallinity of cellulose particles, as well as their thickening abilities, were found to be influenced by the nature of the precipitant (water, methanol, or butanol). Despite different origins and sizes, cellulose particles had minimal impact on the rheology of dispersions, displaying typical gel properties.
