Pedogenic processes in a chronosequence of very deeply weathered soils in southeastern Brazil

Servulo Batista de Rezende et al.

Summary: Brazil has some of the oldest soils in the world, particularly in southeastern Brazil. The soil properties change at the R/C interface, rather than the more commonly observed C/B horizon interface. The composition of clay minerals in the soils remains relatively constant, with slight variations among different soils. The chronosequence study shows that soil properties change significantly from the youngest part of the landscape, while the change is minimal between older soils.

Formation and variation of a 4.5 m deep Oxisol in southeastern Brazil

Marcelo Mancini et al.

Summary: This study utilized proximal sensors and soil analysis to assess a 4.5-m deep Oxisol in southeastern Brazil. By analyzing soil samples using various spectroscopy and scanning techniques, the study revealed variations in elemental contents and mineralogy traits, providing important information for studies on soil genesis.

Lithostructural and tectonic determinants in the geomorphic evolution of the Basalt Plateau - Southern Brazil

Bruno Aparecido da Silva et al.

Summary: This article investigates the role of the geological framework in the evolution and configuration of the landscapes of the Basalt Plateau in southern Brazil. Field and office data were used to study tectonic structures, lithological members, and faults and their influence on landform development. It was found that tectonic reactivations and lithostructure interact to shape the current geomorphic configuration of the Basalt Plateau.

Sombric-like horizon and xanthization in polychrome subtropical soils from Southern Brazil: implications for soil classification

Mariane Chiapini et al.

Summary: The occurrence of dark subsurface horizons rich in organic matter associated with polychrome in the B horizon is common in soils from Southern Brazil. Various processes such as melanization, xanthization, bioturbation were found to be important in the formation of these horizons. Further studies are needed to redefine the sombric horizon classification and to determine the underlying processes.
