Kinetics and Mechanism of the Reaction of Triphenylphosphine with Methyl Vinyl Ketone

Summary: The kinetics of the reaction between triphenylphosphine and methyl vinyl ketone have been investigated using the stopped flow technique. Experimental data indicate that the reactions of electron-withdrawing group-activated alkenes belong to the same reaction series and follow an identical mechanism involving a rate-determining proton transfer step. The quantitative analysis of the effect of electron-withdrawing groups showed no correlation between electrophilicity and alkene reactivity.

Phosphine-Catalyzed Synthesis of 3-Allyl-4-pyrones by the Tandem Reaction of Diynones and Allylic Alcohols

Summary: A simple and effective tandem reaction of diynones and allylic alcohols was developed to synthesize functionalized 3-allyl-4-pyrones in moderate to excellent yields. The protocol demonstrated broad substrate tolerance, high regioselectivity, and atom economy under a metal-free condition. Functional transformation of the products was also further studied.
