Gel entrapped ZnO nanorods: An efficient and sustainable catalyst for the Claisen-Schmidt condensation reaction in aqueous hydrotropic media

Suraj R. Attar et al.

Summary: A new strategy for improving the catalytic activity of nanoparticles in organic transformations has been reported. Gel-entrapped zinc oxide nanorods (GE-ZnO NRs) were prepared and characterized by various techniques. The catalytic activity of GE-ZnO NRs was investigated in the CSC reaction of aldehydes and acetophenone in an aqueous medium at room temperature. The catalyst was easily separated from the reaction mixture using a centrifugation-free filtration process and could be reused multiple times without significant loss in activity. The use of low-cost biodegradable materials, centrifugation-free separation, and isolation of the product without column chromatography are noteworthy features of this sustainable approach.

Green synthesis and characterization of mixed-phase Fe 2 O 3 nanorods as a novel magnetically recoverable heterogeneous catalyst for Biginelli synthesis

Dnyaneshwar Sanap et al.

Summary: For the first time, mixed-phase magnetic Fe2O3 nanorods were successfully synthesized by biosynthesis using a sol-gel auto-combustion method. The catalytic effect of these nanorods on the synthesis of 6-(chloromethyl)-1,2,3,4-tetrahydro-2-pyrimidinone derivatives was investigated. The phase formation, surface topography, and crystallinity of the nanorods were explored using various spectroscopy and microscopy techniques.

Nano 5% Fe-ZnO: A highly efficient and recyclable heterogeneous solid nano catalyst for the Biginelli reaction

Ravindra Haribhau Waghchaure et al.

Summary: In this study, the synthesis and catalytic application of 5% Fe-ZnO nanocatalyst for the synthesis of 3,4-dihydropyrimidin-2-one derivatives were reported. The structural and morphological features of the synthesized nanocatalysts were investigated using XRD and SEM. The properties of the nanocatalyst, including particle size, crystal lattice structure, and surface area, were determined using various experimental methods. NMR analysis confirmed the structure of the synthesized products. The results demonstrate that 5% Fe-ZnO nanocatalyst is a highly efficient heterogeneous nanocatalyst for the synthesis of 3,4-dihydropyrimidin-2-one derivatives.
