Ibrahim Hatoum et al.

Summary: In this study, the SSITKA-IR technique was applied to investigate the intermediates of CO oxidation reaction on the catalyst surface. It was found that linear and bridged carbonyl species were active intermediates on metallic Pt-0, while hydrogen-carbonate species were proven to be inactive and resulted from the re-adsorption of CO2.

Microkinetic model validation for Fischer-Tropsch synthesis at methanation conditions based on steady state isotopic transient kinetic analysis

Jonas Van Belleghem et al.

Summary: An extended Single-Event MicroKinetic (SEMK) model successfully simulated Steady State Isotopic Transient Kinetic Analysis (SSITKA) data for Co catalyzed Fischer-Tropsch Synthesis (FTS), providing meaningful estimates for activation energies and atomic chemisorption enthalpies. The model analysis revealed the nature of two site types and the reaction preference for CO on step sites, as well as the role of terrace sites in methane production and alkane hydrogenation. The metal particle size effect was attributed to the increasing importance of terrace sites on reaction kinetics.

Lateral Interactions of Dynamic Adlayer Structures from ArtificialNeural Networks

Bart Klumpers et al.

Summary: Lateral interactions play a crucial role in describing adsorption isotherms for heterogeneous catalytic reactions. To study these interactions, a new neural network model is developed to replace electronic structure calculations for monolayer structures, with lower computational cost. The increase in lateral interactions at higher temperatures is found to be essential in reconciling theoretical and experimental observations. Additionally, considering dispersion interactions is necessary to accurately predict both isotherms and adsorption site distributions.

Kinetic insights into the effect of promoters on Co/Al2O3 for Fischer-Tropsch synthesis

Xiaoli Yang et al.

Summary: This study systematically investigated the promoter effects in the Fischer-Tropsch synthesis over Co-based catalysts using Rh, Ir, Sb, and Ga as promoters. The higher dispersion and reducibility of Rh- and Ir- promoted catalysts enhanced the adsorption property, while the Sb- and Ga- promoted catalysts showed a contrary result due to the formation of alloy. The activation energies of these catalysts were found to have a linear relationship with activation entropies. The promoters mainly affected the CHx concentration on the catalyst surface, which in turn influenced the CO reaction rate and product distribution. The difference in reactivity and selectivity was attributed to the modification of adsorption strength dictated by the enthalpy of activation. These findings provide kinetic insights into promoter effects and can aid in the optimization of catalysts.

Umesh Pandey et al.

Summary: The detailed kinetic model developed in this study accurately describes the consumption of key components and product distribution in the Fischer-Tropsch synthesis over a commercial catalyst, incorporating a water-assisted CO dissociation mechanism and a novel approach to product distribution modeling. The model parameters are optimized against experimental data under various process conditions, showing a good fit with literature reported values. The model can accurately capture the effects of water and other process variables on the kinetics and product distribution, crucial for the design and optimization of Fischer-Tropsch reactors.

Design of Cobalt Fischer-Tropsch Catalysts for the Combined Production of Liquid Fuels and Olefin Chemicals from Hydrogen-Rich Syngas

Kai Jeske et al.

Summary: The discussion in the article revolves around the role of different catalysts in adjusting hydrocarbon product distributions. Cobalt catalysts are suitable for synthesizing long-chain paraffins, while iron carbide catalysts are suitable for co-producing waxes and liquid olefins. Oxides can influence the selectivity of catalysts, with alkali and lanthanide oxides decreasing the turnover frequency.

Unravelling the influence of catalyst properties on light olefin production via Fischer-Tropsch synthesis: A descriptor space investigation using Single-Event MicroKinetics

Anoop Chakkingal et al.

Summary: In this research, the SEMK modelling approach was used to investigate the impact of catalyst descriptors on the yield of light olefins, identifying a promising catalyst with specific Q(H), Q(C), and Q(O) values that resulted in a high yield of light olefins. The combined effect of the three catalyst descriptors on conversion was observed, while the selectivity to light olefins was found to be less sensitive to Q(O). These effects were rationalized in terms of relative surface coverages of different species, leading to variations in dominant reaction pathways and product yield.
