Circulating levels of AGEs and soluble RAGE isoforms are associated with all-cause mortality and development of cardiovascular complications in type 2 diabetes: a retrospective cohort study

Jacopo Sabbatinelli et al.

Summary: This study explored the association of soluble RAGE isoforms, AGEs, and their ratios with 15-year all-cause mortality in type 2 diabetes. The results showed that the increase in the AGEs/cRAGE ratio was associated with a higher risk of all-cause mortality in type 2 diabetes patients. Additionally, sRAGE was associated with the development of major adverse cardiovascular events in type 2 diabetes patients without previous MACE. A nomogram based on age, sex, HbA1c, systolic blood pressure, and the AGEs/cRAGE ratio was built to predict the survival in type 2 diabetes.

Prediabetes and What It Means: The Epidemiological Evidence

Justin B. Echouffo-Tcheugui et al.

Summary: Prediabetes is a common stage between normal glycemia and diabetes, with risks varying depending on definitions used. Lifestyle and pharmacologic interventions are proven to be cost-effective, preventing diabetes and improving cardiovascular risk factors, but practical implementation is challenging due to lack of consensus on defining the condition.
