Ultralight pyrolytic carbon foam reinforced with amorphous carbon nanotubes for broadband electromagnetic absorption

Luo Kong et al.

Summary: In this study, a 3D porous pyrolytic carbon (PyC) foam matrix was synthesized using a template method, and amorphous carbon nanotubes (CNTs) were grown on the matrix surface to obtain ultralight CNTs/PyC foam. The in-situ grown amorphous CNTs were uniformly distributed and enhanced the interface polarization and conduction loss of the composites. The ultralight CNTs/PyC foam exhibited a density of 22.0 mg center dot cm(-3) and a reflection coefficient lower than -13.3 dB in the entire X-band (8.2-12.4 GHz), surpassing the conventional standard of effective absorption bandwidth (<=-10 dB). These results provide insights for the research of ultralight and strong electromagnetic wave absorbing materials in the X-band.

Multicomponent Nanoparticles Synergistic One-Dimensional Nanofibers as Heterostructure Absorbers for Tunable and Efficient Microwave Absorption

Chenxi Wang et al.

Summary: In this study, a one-dimensional N-doped carbon nanofibers material encapsulating hollow Co3SnC0.7 nanocubes was successfully synthesized using electrospinning. The resulting fibers exhibited excellent microwave absorption properties due to the space charge stacking effect and impedance matching between Co3SnC0.7 and carbon network. The strategies for regulating electromagnetic performance in this study can be further extended to develop emerging absorbers using other electromagnetic functional materials.

Construction of NiCeOx nanosheets-skeleton cross-linked by carbon nanotubes networks for efficient electromagnetic wave absorption

Xinmeng Huang et al.

Summary: In this study, two-dimensional NiCeOx nanosheet-modified carbon nanotubes (CNTs) composites were prepared via hydrothermal method. The addition ratio of nickel salt and cerium salt was adjusted to form NiCeOx with different morphologies, and the introduction of CNTs effectively prevented the aggregation of NiCeOx nanosheets. Microstructural analysis revealed that hexagonal NiCeOx nanosheets with a size of 100 nm were uniformly intertwined with CNTs. The NiCeOx/CNTs composites exhibited superior electromagnetic wave absorption performance compared to pure CNTs and NiCeOx nanosheets, attributed to improved impedance matching and multiple polarization relaxation.

Interfacial polarization dominant CNTs/PyC hollow microspheres as a lightweight electromagnetic wave absorbing material

Luo Kong et al.

Summary: For non-magnetic materials, polarization and conductivity loss are crucial factors affecting electromagnetic wave absorption properties. The study focuses on heterogeneous interfacial polarization, using carbon nanotubes/pyrolytic carbon hollow microspheres (CNTs/PyC HMs) with numerous interfaces. The crystallization degree of CNTs can be adjusted, leading to enhanced conductivity differences and interfacial polarization intensity. CNTs/PyC HMs with a special hollow structure exhibit excellent dielectric loss capability, making them suitable for electromagnetic wave absorption applications.

Intelligent Off/On Switchable Microwave Absorption Performance of Reduced Graphene Oxide/VO2 Composite Aerogel

Zheng Cheng et al.

Summary: Intelligent microwave absorption materials with dynamically adjustable microwave absorption performance have great significance in future civil and military applications. A new type of reduced graphene oxide/VO2 composite aerogels has been developed, which exhibits switchable microwave absorption performance based on the phase change behavior of VO2. The electrical conductivity and permittivity of the composite material change significantly with temperature, resulting in off/on switchable microwave absorption performance. The composite material can switch between two modes, on to off and off to on, as temperature increases, and it demonstrates good cycling stability. Moreover, the maximum changes in effective absorption bands and RL values during the switch process exceed most current reports.

Summary: A novel composite preparation strategy based on electrostatic spinning methods has been proposed in this study to design dendritic nanofibers using two-dimensional metal carbide or nitride materials (MXenes) as the matrix and embedded magnetic nanoparticles as magnetic loss units. The resulting multidimensional nanocomposites exhibit exceptional conduction loss, magnetic loss, and polarization loss capabilities due to interlaced carbon fiber networks, large-scale magnetically coupled networks, and multi-heterojunction interface structures. The composites achieve optimum reflection loss and a wide effective absorption bandwidth, making them potential lightweight and efficient electromagnetic wave protective fabric in harsh environments.

Luo Kong et al.

Summary: In this study, CNTs/Ti(3)C(2)Tx hybrids were prepared using chemical vapor deposition, with an investigation into the internal effects between micromorphology and interface polarization. The dielectric properties of the hybrids were found to increase with the length of CNTs, with growth time being a direct determinant of CNTs length. Additionally, the micro capacitors and dipoles formed by defects on CNTs greatly increased the dielectric loss.
